It appears that the pirates killed Bootstrap Bill but wasn't he cursed and turned into an undead, as well?

Maybe I missed something.

They killed him before they turned, I believe.

I didn't think they turned until they started spending the gold.

Either that or he was floating around Davy Jones Locker alive with the fish.

But the reason why they needed Will Turner's blood was because the father was cursed. That's the reason why the boy wasn't cursed because the medal already cursed his father.

I'm all confused. I finally got to watch it after waiting SO long. :)

EDIT: You turn as soon as you take it out of the treasure chest. Just look at Jack Sparrow at the end.

I just saw this movie for the second time yesterday. They tied Bootstrap to a cannon after the curse was upon them. They said they dropped him into the crushing depths, which means, yes, he was undead but the crushing depths would shatter his bones, much like how Will shoved that bomb into that one pirate's stomach and the three pirates exploded. They may be undead, but their body parts can still be blown apart, shredded, chopped off, etc. So, Bootstrap was effectively dead.

That cant be right, because if he was dead how did he get the gold medallion to his son? He had to have it before he sent it therefore he was undead. Im betting he was dumped over the edge as an undead so he was walking around in the ocean but unless he was able to get out would have drowned when the "curse" was lifted. Would make for a good sequel though wouldnt it, if he got out?

Ahh, good catch. I had the impression that although they were shattered, they could still gather themselves and come back to life. The arm that was severed was still alive after it was cut off. I guess if he was alive, he was in pieces underneath the waters. :)

Right. They killed him first, and only those who physically took gold from the chest became a zombie. Even if they had the chest onboard while Bootstrap was alive, it wouldn't have mattered.

His father was there when they found the chest so that's why they needed the blood.

I don't know why I'm discussing this stupid movie...

Actually, you didn't have to spend the coins, you only had to take it. Remember that Jack Sparrow took a coin from the chest and became cursed. He didn't spend it at all. So Bootstrap was cursed, too, because took a gold piece from the chest only to send it to his son.

Bootstrap was undead. That's the only thing that makes sense. There's no before turning undead. Curses don't work on technicalities like "you have to spend the money".

They killed Bootstrap Bill before the curse had fallen on them. If you remember they said after time went by and they kept spendin the gold food no longer filled their hunger, drinks no longer stopped their thirst, and pleasuers no longer filled their pleasuers. It took a short bit of time for the curse to fall on to them. Bootstrap was killed before the curse had fallen but he was part of the original group that had stolen the money so his blood was still needed to lift the curse.

The father would have definately been a zombie unless his actions of selflessly sending the coin to his son kept him away from the curse or the "crushing depths" theory. Or will would have had the curse too for just having the coin.

If it wasn't instantaneous, then how did Jack turn to one so quickly?

Makes sense but it doesn't add up. Jack Sparrow turned into a zombie as soon as he took the coin out of the chest. Bootstrap had to have been a zombie (or turning) as his blood was needed.

That's a good question, why did Barbosa say it took awhile for them to finally realize they were cursed but Jack became cursed right away? Did they just not step into the moonlight before food, drink, and pleasure became nothing to them?

Jack had the curse fall on him because the curse was already in full effect. The curse was just started when Bootstrap the rest stole the money, but it takes time for it to come into effect.

In other news... I heard there was a short scene after the end credits finish, but I couldn't stick around to find out. Did anyone here stay to see if there was such a scene, and if so what happened?

you find out that the monkey is still alive with the curse, no big deal.

i have a much simpler question. why does jack sparrow constantly act like a drunk retard? they sort of mentioned an explanation but i kind of missed it
