Im a Newbie trying to upgrade my computer,..

What Im basically trying to do is install a AMD XP 1800+ on my MSI K7T Turbo motherboard,...

Currently I am running a Duron 600. I just got the CPU off EBAY (got good reviews and guarantees against DOA).

Today I installed the CPU and I got the computer to bootup and got only a 1140 cpu speed (?) and then my computer shut down and what I get is a blank screen,....When I reinstalled my own Duron 600 again, my computer was able to to boot up fine and my computer is running again,..thus being able to post this question on this forum,...

What are the steps that I should take to install this Palomino 1800+ on my MSI motherboard,..According to MSI, my mobo supports this chip,...Also, I think I am supposed to change the FSB to 133 instead of 100 on the bios, but do I do this before I take the Duron out and install the XP?? Or do I do this when I first boot up after the chip install?? Why is my computer shutting itself down and getting a blank screen after I turn on the computer? Should I be changing the FSB before my computer shuts down cause previously I had a Duron 600 and now a XP 1800+?? When I first booted up after the 1800+ install, I got the screen showing my mem and cpu speed, then it abruptly shut down, I only got a blank screen after that,...

Please, I need help before I ruin my motherboard or other,..I dont want to mess up my computer and am only trying to increase my CPU,...Also, i want to do what I can before saying I got a CPU DOA back to the EBAY seller,.....

thanks much

Once you install the XP chip, go into the BIOS and make the speed change to 133.

I had the same mobo and I can't remember if there was a jumper for 100/133 or not, but if you can change it from the BIOS, it should work fine.

You might also need a BIOS update for it to work, but quite possibly not... if the system powers on at all there is a good sign it will work (with some tweaking.)
