Hi guys,

I'm putting together a new sytstem and because my current system has a triple monitor set up I wanted to do the same with my new one. I wish to use, if possible, only two vid cards for the triple monitor setup (hence the dual head card) in order to free up a PCI slot for other use. But can I use a Matrox G450 Dual head PCI with GP3 TI 200 64 MB VID CARD AGP for triple monitor desktop?

I plan on using Windows XP:
AMD Athlon XP 1700 CPU
MSI 6380 KT266A RAID MOBO
512 DDR PC 2100 RAM
GP3 TI 200 64 MB VID CARD AGP
G450 Dual head PCI VID CARD
ATI tv Wonder PCI
WESTERN 60 GB 7200 HD
LITE-ON 24X CD-RW

Any ideas if this will work?

On 19' monitor I have the TV tuner (I'm a financial consultant so I like to have the business news on as muh as I can), second monitor 17" is my browser for keeping up to date stock markets etc, third monitor 17" is for my Email, contact manager, office, word etc.

I also have a company laptop with all my clients financial portfolios on my desk beside the other three monitors.

Whenever I can get my hands on a digital camera I will post pics of the setup. :D

Sounds like a pretty sweet setup. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Currently I'm running a Geforce ti200 w/ an old Matrox G200 PCI, and plan to replace the G200 with a dual head pci vid card.

Already have a 13" tv in my home office, usually watch the hockey game (or whatever on it) and something else on the 19" monitor.

Also have 3 other tvs scatterred around the house.

Another advantage to multimonitors is the capacity to "S T R E T C H" whatever application over two or even three monitors in order to view and work on more information without schrolling.

C'mon guys, anyone else out there with multimonitor setup?

Give me some feedback.

I doubt you'll have any problems, multimonitor support is great under Win2k and WinXP (don't run it, but tested it a long time ago and have seen people with it). As long as you have an AGP as the primary, specify, in the BIOS to boot AGP first, you should have 0 issues. I, for one, would love to have 3x outputs. Ideally, I'd like a CRT as the main and dual DVI screens as the second and third display. The CRT still cannot be beaten for gaming.

The only thing I can think of is that the G400 will not use a bios being the secondary card. Plug 'n pray will still work, but if the bios controls the dual head functions, you may be out of luck.

Ive got a Elsa GF2MX PCI dual head and a Elsa GF2MX AGP in my rig running 2 TFT's and an Iiyama CRT no problems.
If you were to pop the G450 in you should not have any problems with a Geforce 3 in the AGP as you will be using the Windows built in multi monitor display config utility which is driver independent AFAIK.
Just install the drivers for both cards and you will be good to go.
The only thing you may have problems with is trying to use nVidia's new nView extensions working with the G450 maybe?
It may work, but if not you can always disable it. No great hardship IMO though it is nice to be able to pop a DVD/Media Player video on any monitor without windows complaining about it.

FYI a long time ago i used a Matrox G200 PCI with a Geforce 2 MX in dual display and the nVidia Twinview worked perfectly with these two cards.

FYI, my TV tuner wouldn't work with a dual monitor setup. I have an AIW Radeon and it's a official "bug" but you might want to see if others with TV tuners and multiple monitors have issues.

Sounds sweet. The only problem I can anticipate is that Matrox's software is designed for only Dual monitors, but I could be wrong.

Why would you get a
duel head matrox
gf3
AND
a ati allinwonder

If all you want is a inputcard get a good one. AIW isnt really all that good if your only gonna use it for input

May I suggest the Matrox G200 MMS series. With just one card you can drive up to 4 digital or analog monitors.
Matrox Product Page
Ebay Auction

/edit Some version come with onboard tv tuner. So ths board can do everything you want in a single slot. It reatails for $700 but you can get it for less than 100 at ebay.

I did not mention the ATI AllInWonder it is the ATI tv Wonder I want for the tv tuner capabilities. Do you have a beter alternative for the tv tuner and the video input support of ATI-TV WONDER?

I've had a reply to my post concerning the Mobo I'm considering, (see below)

AAO - Golden Member posted ;"I haven't had this MSI board, but all of the MSIs I have had or have good friends with are very disappointing. MSI has serious quality problems, they tend to go dead quite early in their life, it happens with quite a few of their boards, must be a quality problem. Sometimes they go dead under a year and you get a replacement, leading to a hassle of swapping boards, other times its over a year and you're hung out to dry. "

Am I really asking for trouble with this board?

I have had several MSI motherboards, both K7 and P3/Celeron models and have only had one that i was happy with and that was the KM133 model.
I now will not buy MSI.
If you want a stable motherboard may i recommend looking at the Gigabyte GA7VTXH or GA7VTXH+.
Im currently using a GA7VTXH myself, and as long as you stick to the official non-beta bioses you will have one of the most stable AMD platforms around. The GA7DX, GA7DXR and GA7DXR+ are also worth looking at if you were to prefer going for an AMD northbridge.
