Soo.... I just got my 5850 installed today. Got all the drivers up, uninstalled F@H, cleared all the files and re-installed with the one supposedly that works with AMD cards.

Initially, the client told me the card wasn't compatible, eventually I found that I should add '-forcegpu ati_r700' in the Additional Client Parameters to get it running. Okay, all up, Folding started.

BUT, the performance seems really bad. My 9600GT had about 2900-3100 PPD, this 5850 seems only to be crunching at just under 3600 PPD, which is not a very large step up and certainly isn't reflected the HUGE difference in capabilities between the two cards.

What do I need to do to get this baby humming along, or is the F@H project just not ready for the 58xx series?

ATI cards currently perform far below Nvidia for Folding. The GPU3 client is supposed to be out soon and will hopefully change this.

Gah, that's a bit frustrating. I can run a GPU and a CPU client, right? With the 5850 I ordered a Q9550 (E0 stepping! Plan for a little OC too :)) and might as well put it to use as well. Do I really have to do the VM Linux method to get the most from the Quad, or is that more for the i7/i5's with HT or more cores?

Yes, I run NotFred's CPU client alongside a console GPU client (or clients on my SLI desktop) on two different computers to great effect.
