I've got one stick of A-Data PC4000 running with a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and a VNF3-250

Is there any benefit to lowering the multiplier and raising the fsb?

Or another way to word that question is...

Which is faster or is it all the same in the end?

200 x 10 = 2.0ghz
250 x 8 = 2.0ghz

I'm not sure how FSB speed impacts A64 performance. I would imagine you would get more memory bandwidth, but with the integrated memory controller I'm not sure how big a deal that is. Most people usually don't buy anything faster than PC3700 for an A64.

I thought timings were more irrelevant on an A64 system because the memory controller was integrated on the die, so latency wasn't an issue.

Well... I guess there's only one way to find out. The current bios for the vnf3-250 does not allow you to change multipliers. The beta bios does, but it has some trouble with USB keyboards and mouses. So I'll wait for the final bios and let you know which is faster.

About the latency... Toms hardware did an article on it. Linky
