Putting astroturf instead of sod in a lawn

Fake turf fades, and must be replaced regularly. It also --when installed outdoors-- builds up with dirt, and must be cleaned.

In reality, it would be no easier and no cheaper than a lawn. Fake turf was not invented to make turf care easier, it was invented so that they could have turf in indoor areas and for consistency.

BTW, get a walk behind mower and enjoy the exercise.

One of the reasons so many are so fat is no one wants to do any physical labor anymore.

and then paint it green. no more hassles.

I looked into this before, and while neat, is insanely expensive for any decent sized yard.

Look up synthetic grass rather than astroturf.

There are some places that make the stuff you seek. 10 year warrantys against fade. But it is a ton of work installation wise. Drainage has to be put in underneath everything. Then have to put down this material that the actual "turf" sits on. Then the turf, then staked down.

It does require some care, to keep the drainage working, but shouldn't be too bad as long as you don't have trees and stuff.

And it would probably look goofy 8 months of the year when no one elses grass is bright green...

Anyways, when I looked at it a year ago, enough for a small size area, say 1/4 acre was like 15k

Sure it's been done. Have you not read Billy Bob's book on how to turn a nice house in a middle class neighborhood, into trailer trash quality, with just a case of beer, 3 helpers, and a couple hours? 😛

TSK, TSK, TSK....very tacky!
