tan [90degrees - arctan( 8/(x-4) ) ] = (x-8) / (x-4)

thanks, i dont have access to a calculator right now and need to settle a math bet.

Oh yeah, that's right. I thought he wanted to just simplify the left part of the equation, and the right was what he got.

I get 8 +/- 8*i

tan(pi/2 - arctan(x)) = 1/x

using this you get:
(x-4)/8 = (x-8)/(x-4)
(x-4)^2 = 8x-64
x^2-8x+16 = 8x-64
x^2-16x+80 = 0

quadratic eq. gives 8 +- 8i

Edit: quadratic eq. gives 8 +- 4i
