Put PC100 ram into an iMac?

apple is very vague about what exactly the specs are for the RAM that goes into the iMacs. is it just standard PC100 or pc133 ram or does it use different voltages and all? i ask because the imac we use for photo work at school needs more ram bad and i happen to have a few extra pc100 sticks i coud throw in if theyd work until we can order something else...

PC100, but it might need to be a registered DIMM.

go to crucial.com - they have a memory selector that might have macs. its on the frontpage and is a scroll down menu.

its under Apple > iMAC > choose your system model.

well crucial has different part numbers on the stock 128mb pc100 and the mac ram...

this site lists the specs of the ram...wht i have matches it all but i dont understnad exactly what correctly programmed Serial Presence Detect EPROM is...is this some "special imac" programming embedded into the ram?

so does this mean im out of luck? or will it still work just to to some apple spec?

I threw two 256mb pc133 in my imac dv+, and it seemed to do just fine. They recomend pc100, which runs fine, but there is nothing else special about the memory.

Just remember though, if you use more then 1 gb, os 9.2 can only access up to 999mb per each application.

ok i may try taking one of my extra dimms with me tomorrow...i just didnt want to fry my ram or the computer by trying it...i cant remember do the imac dv's have 2 or 3 dimm slots?

yea, my fathers Imac classic (the old bondi blue one) uses SO-DIMMS. I looked it up on crucial before I bought the chip.

im certain that these are 168 pin dimms cuz ive opened one up to check...
