I recently purchased the Accelero X2 cooler for my X1900XTX. I put it on using the stock thermal paste that was on the cooler and put on the 8 thermal memory pads on the X1900XTX memory.
I booted the computer up and wasn't pleased with the drop in temperatures. So, I took the Accelero X2 off of the ATI card (this wasn't easy), removed the stock thermal paste with some iso alchohol and then put some AS5 on the GPU.
Now, the memory pads that were on the memory got pulled off of the memory and onto the back of the Accelero X2. On a couple of the memory modules there was a little bit of thermal pad that was still on there so I cleaned it off with some iso alchohol.
Now, the 8 thermal pads on the back of the cooler were in pretty good shape - still somewhat sticky but not quite as sticky as they were originally.
I then mounted the heatsink back onto the card and tightened the bolts. It looked like all of the thermal pads mated up good with the memory modules.
The system seems to be running fine.
Anyone see any problem with this? Should I redo this again and use new thermal pads on the memory ????
Thanks!!
