Pushing the limits with WMP 8.0

Ok, so I was watching some Cowboy Bebop MPEGs under DivX 5 and Windows Media Player 8.0 on my 266 MHz Pentium II. Task Manager says my CPU usage was 100% and the video would stutter sometimes.

I went back to Windows Media Player 6.4 and my CPU usage dropped to 60-70%.

I don't understand why WMP 8.0 would be so much slower. It's utterly ridiculous. If I use DivX Player 2.0 I get as low as 30-40% CPU usage

Video file is 352x240 at 29 fps.
