Pushing the AXP-M 2600+ CPU

Currenly I have my AXPM 2600+ at 2532MHz and I pushed it to 2637.5 (211x12.5) and it went to windows but gave a rounding error in prime95 so I think this will run with a bit more voltage but I'm concerned if it's safe to go up more than 1.9v and run at 2.6GHz? Anybody on Air running at 2.6 and stable? No reboot, no corruption, no sudden death, etc. happened?

What's the highest voltage ideal for AXP-M

Currently I have it at 1.9v (1.84-1.86 actual)
NF7-S rev2
1Gig OCZ Dual Channel
Thermaltake extreme volcano 12 (lapped)

temp in full load 58C
temp idle 45-47C

How long will the chip live running at 1.9v? Is going > 1.9 not advisable? What's the safest range of temp for the AXP-M? I'm happy with the perf right now but if my chip might die in a year I'd lower my OC to around 2.4Ghz.

yeah i did.

i ran my 2600+ mobile at 2.6 ghz @ 1.95 volts on a dfi infinity with the SP-97 and tt smart fan 2 :)

no crashes, no deaths.. no problems!

try 1.95 volts.

these bartons can take up to 2.15 so 1.95 is still ok.

wow 2.15v ..... how long do you think the life of my CPU will be with 1.95v? I think I'll add SB heatsink and mosfet heatsink too....where's a good place to get those type of heatsink? with reasonable price? Will bump it up when I get the heatsink just to be on the safe side.....

anyone running AXP-M OCed with Air cooling @2.5Ghz to 2.6Ghz range for 2 years running with no problems and at >1.9v? Would like to run at that speed if it will last a couple of years...2-3 years...just in time for the maturity of 64bit OS and 64bit CPU's.....then I'll build a new machine

Question... are you running with your case open?

Im currently running my XP-M 2600 @2562.5 (1.9vcore - 12.5x205) @2-2-2-11 2.9vdimm

With my case panels on the cpu temp jumps to about 69-70 during a prime95 torture test

With the panels off, highest it gets to is about 61-62

Just curious

I just recieved my M 2600 IQYHA from ExcaliberPC and am currently running 2.59Ghz (215x12) @ 1.75V on air cooling. 42 degrees idle, 52 load. My memory is synced @ 215mhz and is running wonderfully. I still have some more headroom in both speed and voltage with the CPU and memory. This proc is boss.

EDIT: I would go higher with OC but I don't want to turn this beasty fan up any higher to keep it cool. I have it throttled down to 2500rpm and it's pretty quiet atm. I want to keep it that way :p

Wow, nice speeds at that voltage

Edit: What memory and timings are you running?

if thats happening that means you need better circulation in your case.

I just got an IQYHA from Newegg and so far it can get up to 213x12 (2556MHz) at 1.8V stable at 48-9C load, 42C idle. It starts to have problems at 214x12 though.

How do you guys get the actual voltage?
Also for some reason my BIOS reads the CPU speed as 212x12 although it's set to 213 and memtest/SiSandra/etc, also read the speed at the appropriate 2556.

Yeah I know, but with all the fans going my case sounds like a learjet =/ Leave the panels + fans off its pretty quiet.

One of these days Ill just upgrade to water cooling

I must have gotten a weird chip... I seem to be running the highest vcore with the lowest OC results =/

2.6ghz@1.825 volts with a Volcano 12

and no,your chip is just fine. its all about stepping. 2.6ghz is a VERY good overclock to begin with thats why your not hearing from other people. my other barton only did 2.4ghz at 1.9,and even thats a pretty reasonable overclock.

i recently got it from there too,we probably got a cpu from the same tray :)

P.S. - my current setup is too tight for me to fit anything better than my crappy Volcano 12, therefore i'm jealous.

how high can you go with that heatsink?

Nope case closed with 5 fans + fan controller. From the Abit supplied Hardware monitor I usually get 55-57C cpu load temps (using prime95) at 1.9v (1.84-1.86 actual voltage from the monitor) and chipset is at 33-35C Don't know if this is the diode temp or the real actual cpu temp. Cables are neatly packed so good airflow too. Is the ambient air there warm? your temps seems to be high...

Yes on a very old HS an thermalright ax7. I was lucky to get a chip that will do 2.6 with a measly 1.75 volts though. It's a IQYHA 2600. My other chip is doing 2.7 with 1.85 on water. I tell everyone to get 2600+ it's by far the best chip.

The 2400 we have does 2.34 on a $8 HSF (spreezey whisper) @ 1.74V. Runs hot but who cares if it's stable.

I've noticed with these bartons the temps almost increase expontially when you get above 1.8volts and I find it diminishing returns as far as clock speeds. Simply not worth it IMO. I recommend decideding on a arppox vCore say 1.75 - 1.82 then see how high the chip can go within those ranges.

You think I should try 2637.5 (211x12.5) at > 1.9 volts? Or should I stick with 2532Ghz. How long do you think my chip will last at that high of a voltage. Would like for it to last 1-2 years before I build a new machine again...

I noticed that the TT volcano 12 contact area is not as smooth as can be, maybe lapping it will help you get a degree or so lower....unless it's lapped already

it was horribly lapped, so i fixed that:

http://images3.deviantart.com/i/2004/164/6/3/Copper_like_whoa.jpg

only yielded 1C change. if you saw how my case is setup you'd understand. i just got annoyed and ordered a SP-97 an hour ago, its lower so it won't obstruct the airflow in my small case.

edit: if i take the panel off my case my temps go from 45C max to 35C. my rear fan is as good as no good since the V12 is so high.

Sounds fair then. I just lowered the temp to 1.875 (1.81-1.82 actual) and running prime95 to see if 2532Ghz will run ok at that voltage. Thanks.

Actually I tried getting it up higher (both FSB and multi) but that requires that I increase the vcore to higher than 1.85. And for some reason the chip won't handle it which is strange because when I was ocing my 2100+ T-bred B on this board I could get it to 1.9v with no problems. So I'm stuck at 2.59 unless I get some exotic cooling. As is I'm getting temps 45 idle 55 load (and that's with poor case cooling).

mine does the exact same thing at 1.9volts unless i have the case open and the AC pointed at it :)

thanks to you, i had a mild retard fit and bought a SP-97. i'll let you know how that goes if you care.

Hey, anything I can do toward your subtle retardation :)

I wouldn't mind knowing your results with that SP-97.
