This is assuming that it is only the starter that is malfunctioning, though.
You may be able to start the car this way even with a dead battery, but it's going to depend.... I don't think you would be able to with most modern cars, but I could be wrong. Don't know if you could get the alternator spinning fast enough to generate enough power to work the electronics.
