Push = Jumper

Anyone else think they are basically the same movie? (by going by the trailer)

Push
Jumper

Maybe these weren't the best examples but the Push one that is shown on TV makes it look just like Jumper (special abilities, secret organization against them, etc)

THESE ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT MOVIES.

In Jumper, the head bad guy was black, but in Push, the head back guy is... umm, nevermind.

the jumpers only had 1 ability. these people have different abilities. the bad guys in jumper wanted to kill the jumpers. in this movie, the bad guys want to use them for their own ends.

yeah, it's a similar type of movie, but hasn't this type of movie been done many times before jumper even?

It's say it's more like a movie about Heroes.

That's what I thought when I watched the trailer. It looks like Heroes, and similarly crappy.

I dug Hiro in the 1st season, he was a cool character, but the show has become almost unwatchable.

Yeah, damn similar movies, neither of which looks good.

Oddly though, after watching the Jumper trailer, I have a sudden urge to buy a Lexus...

I really liked Jumper. Push is Jumper with different actors. Push will suck because of Dakota Fanning, and because it's done before. I mean come on, couldn't they find one single white actor to play the bad guy? (nothing against AA, but they could have made a little effort to make the movies distinguishable from one another)

The End

Trailers begin with a aerial shot of NYC, show main character using ability for their own benefit nefariously (robbing banks, gambling)

Secret organization led by edgy black guy trying to find them. They team up with someone else with abilities. Romance develops between main character and another!

I mean seriously, is there anyway they can justify it not being the same movie? Isn't this copyright infringement nearly? I loved jumper despite it's bad reviews, so I hope its good. But I mean, seriously? This is the best they can do?

Isn't Wanted in the same vein as well? All these Matrix-esque ripoffs just blend together for me.

Wanted is similar I guess, but until you mentioned it I never noticed them being similar. Either way, it was a completely different premise

Oh yes, all sci-fi films are the same because they're...sci-fi.

By this reasoning, Push = Jumper = X-Men = Fantastic Four = Heroes = The 4400 = Justice League = Watchmen

Can you not see the similarities without equating it to other "hero" movies?

I mean, seriously?

Er, it does sound like a cool power if you were a mid-wife or worked in a birthing room though. You'd never have to get your hands messy.

push looks 100x better than jumper.

fixed

Push is from the director of Lucky Number Slevin, which was a great movie. 🙂

Jumper... nothing needs to be said about that. Yes, it came from the director of Mr. and Mrs Smith and Bourne Identity, but it also came from David S Goyer (credited story), who has had many a bad/decent movies in-between the rare gem (The Dark Knight).

Push looks like what Jumper WANTED to be, but didn't reach that level.

Maybe you saw a different preview than I did. The one I saw had people with all sorts of different abilities.

Is it possible for a movie to be worse than Jumper? :Q

No, that movie had a great premise followed by fail city. I have to assume the only objective of that movie was to show hayden pissedenson standing on all of the wonders of the world.

I watched Push on Sunday...and I don't understand all the hate for this movie. I enjoyed it. I didn't go in with high hopes considering the reviews, but it was a fun movie. My only real complaint was the overarching story was not explained very well at the end. That and the division premise was a little too weird to be totally believable. Otherwise I liked the characters and execution, the movie stayed about them and their powers throughout. Good visuals and I liked the Hong-Kong backdrop.

The trailer seemed to bill this as a pure action movie about ass kicking telekinetics, but the movie actually plays out as a game of cat and mouse between psychics.
