I have heard talk from my friends, and from people in his forum that power supplies that come with your case are crap. I was wondering why? My case came with a 400w psu and it hasn't failed me once. And if a system runs with 400w what is the benefit of having more wattage?

well it matters on what kind of case it is . . .

if its an antec, thermaltake, etc, then, okay, its good

anything else, throw that sucker out!

also, the rails matter

PSU specs (especially wattage) by themselves don't mean everything; see here. A quality 350W would be better than a generic overrated 550W. When overloaded (much more of a possibility with a unit of such poor quality), generic units also have a tendency to blow up/catch fire and take all your components with them instead of kindly shutting down.
