Purpose of front intake?

Are there any real benefits of having a front intake? I guess the only ones that I'm aware of are that it cools the hard drive and can help maintain a positive air pressure. Other than that ... anything? Cause I have a side cpu intake fan that I'm planning on using due to amount of noise from all my fans.

if you don't have front intake your exhaust fans will suck in dust from every crack in your case, in thru your cdrom drivers and stuff.

So would front intake... except through your cd-rom 🙂...

I sealed up most of my holes so it only goes through 1 area. where dust is less to accumulate.

not if its filtered intake that works as an airtunnel with the exhaust

Would a side intake be any different? Mine side intake actually has a wind tunnel connected to it that directs air to the CPU fan.

I have 2 80mm front intake fans.

I find that it's just a good way to get the air moving in the case. If you can get the air moving towards the back of the case, then side intake and exhaust fans become that much more effective, keeping air circulating.

Hi, Every case I have seen already has a front vent. Look under the box at the front. A fan mount is also present in all later boxes. A front fan will be a help if you have temperature problems. Most cooling is not done by blowing on anything, but by moving the air out of the case. Mount the front fan to draw air into the case. PS fan moves it out. Hopes this helps a little, Jim

Matt2, you hit the nail right on the head, as we say around here.

I also, have 2 - 80mm front intake fans. And also, you need to have these fan(s) blowing across your hard drive, even if you only have one drive. If you don't believe it try running the drive without a fan and put your hand on top of it and then put your hand on top of it when there IS a fan blowing across it.

i have 2x120mm fans

the rear one is what came with this Antec P160, its alittle noisy but its installed on them rubber pegs, which break if u take the fan off,(if i can find replacements ill change the fan)

and at the front ive just ripped out my vantec stealth for being everything but stealthly, and bought a Akasa Amber series 120mm fan. it moves slightly less air but is less than 20dB.

the rear fan moves more air than the front, (creating negative pressure in the case?) but at least theres a good circulation, and the front fan seems to do enough to stop masses of dust getting in through other nooks n crannies
