I mostly use my second monitor for reference while gaming.

RPGs- maps, creature stats, etc.

FPS- Vent and friends list is up so I can see who is on and who is talking.

Yes, well mindless grinding was the sort of thing I was alluding to with the quality remark. If mindless grinding is inherent to the gameplay, then I would view that game as not being worth playing. If a game fails to provide a sufficiently dynamic and compelling experience to hold the players full attention, then it's a waste of my time, which is exactly my attitude towards WoW. Each to his own I guess.

I guess MMOs aren't for you. A shame, because sometimes, they offer absolutely excellent gaming experiences (at the cost of occasional grinds) that you can not get in the single player world.

huh? Seriously?

for gaming 3 monitors is perfect, better view, especially for stuff like racing or flight simulators.

2 monitors was great when I played MMO type games to multibox on one machine, or have a browser open or something on the second monitor ...

a single good sized 4K monitor IMO will be better than multiple 1080p monitors I think, though you will lose some of the immersion from the peripheral in many games, a single 4k will be better supported and will more or less work easier ...

But there is no one size fits all ...

3 monitors was fantastic for EVE. One toon on each monitor.

Like others said, two monitors. I mostly had two monitors because of working/productivity reasons. For gaming, it was nice. Rather than alt tabing I could just mute the game (or not) and look at content on the other monitor. Really useful for games like cs where it's round based. Sometimes I'd just p90 Rush every round and die within the first thirty seconds. (I basically just Zerg rushed and tried to get as many kills as I could) It was also useful for games that you needed information from a browser up on at the same time you played or for games that you just needed to grind in. (Any mmorpg basically) you'd execute some actions but mostly be consuming content on the other screen. I could watch a tv show and every minute or two go attack a new mob. It was slower than fully focusing on the game but I didn't care. It was basically free xp and no time investment. Nice for games that actually suck in gameplay outside a few special areas or modes.

Lots of real world utility but two monitors is rarely useful for just a game. Very few games utilitize two screens well. Three can be done for immersion but with ultra wide and curved screens out now... I'd probably just go with one of those.

Watching the playoff game on one monitor, have Spotify open on my other monitor and browsing the web on my middle monitor.

I have 3 and love it for work and gaming. For work i can keep email/stocks up on one, websites on another and on the 3rd Word, Excel or Quickbooks on the other.

Admitingly, i dont game as much as i used to, but Civilization across 3 screens is unbelievable. Battlefield the same. And i don't have to sit that far back.

Sadly my GPU decided to drop my 3rd screen so i'm down to 2. Now 2 screens are completely annoying, no games look right on 2, the 3rd center one is the key.
