Purported XP3200 boots as 2500

I'm guessing this CPU needs to go back to the supplier, who for now will remain nameless, because after
switching out a 2500 Barton for a 3200/400 the Bios and Aida still report the processor as a 2500.
Does the CMOS need to be cleared before starting with a different CPU than previously used, or is there
anything else that has to be done besides the CPU install? Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything before I call the dealer. Thanks

don't jump to conclusions unless you know

1. how to read the markings off of a chip
2. understand how the bios works and stuff like that

hahaha.... still funny

oh i checked the codes on the chip which did indicate that it is a 3200, but i've read that some cpus were relabeled by unscrupulous dealers. also, i was under the impression that the mobo/bios could identify the cpu by looking at the output from a couple of the pins on the chip. apparently not. i've tried some minor tweaking but how do you get an xp2400 up to 2.8 gig? that's a 1+ gig OC. GG. Can I send you my box for tuning? just kiddin. i'll keep mucking around and see what i get. running 512mb of corsair value cas 2.5
on an msi K7N2 delta-l which some folks say is not the best overclocker. looking at the abit AN7 for the near future, then an a64 down the road.

Ya know you can have the exact same box and config as the next guy and there is a good possibility that the OCin levels will be totaly different....way to many factors to consider, just the way the world turns and the luck of the draw.

I built a xp2500 for a company and read the label wrong and thoght it was a 1700.Boy they were not happy.Glad you fixed your problem

hmm...wut if they really did screw you over and gave you a 2500+. they could simply tell you just to raise the fsb to 200 and you're set. that way, you would get a 2500+ overclocked paying for the price of a 3200+.

Because most 2500+ don't overclock to 200 FSB. Mine only goes to 183 stably.

With stock cooling? sounds right, if you cool it better it should get higher than that.
