purple video playbacks with Catalyst 2.4 anybody?

well, ive never had problems with my ATI Radeon 8500LE 64mb oem (newegg) until now.

previously, everything worked well, and then i upgraded from Cat2.3 to Cat2.4 ... a very short while after that i noticed that all my videos had an overriding purple tint to it.. I had rage3d and some other tweaking programs on the computer... i messed around with those and it did not help at all.


i went ahead and did a CLEAN format. went straight from the default to the Cat2.4 drivers and it worked well for a few days then today the videos were purple again. i dont remember installing a video program or otherwise making any changes to the system that relates to the video...

It could be your monitor is going, or that the VGA cable is not plugged in all the way. I can't imagine how the drivers would have the effect you are describing. Did you go back to Catalyst 2.3 and see if the problem goes away?

the monitor is a 2 month old Compaq P910... it works perfectly and there are no anomalies anywhere else... except a small part of the front bush and TV in CS_ESTATE (counterstrike) looks funny... signifying that it's most likely a driver problem


the reason I dont want to have to revert to 2.3 is that i want a really clean system this time around (hell, even the ati control panel hasnt been installed). i was hoping that it'd be a common problem and that there would be a fix for it...instead it seems to occur on me only =\

HAppened to me also.. I get purpleish wma and mpg files... i dont really care though, as long it doesnt mess with DVD playback (which i havent tested yet).. makes my porn look different, but not any less "effective".

Are you running your monitor in 16 bit color? I?ve noticed that with my ATI 7500, if I play back DVD?s or DivX?s using the WMP or ATI multimedia center, if I have my color set to 16 bit instead of 32, I get weird colors and distortions (depends on driver version, some do it some don?t). Strange that the DivX Alpha player 2.0 works fine in 16 bit though.

How do you adjust the advanced properties of your card without the control panel? and why would the lack of the control panel contribute to a "clean" install?

Have you tried adjusting the overlay controls?

A problem i'm running into now is that my monitor is turning bright and all black is becomming purple. Not having to do with ati, but i think something is going weird in the monitor itself. I am going to try to plug the monitor back in right perhaps. Something may not be kosher.

It stopped doing it now... aucutally its been fixed for quite awhle (purple screen that is) i think a cold reboot did it, but i donno, i haven't done anything to the ati card at all, it just fixed itself

yeh i had that problem too, do u have a tweak program installed, thats whats casuing the problem
