Reading Anands weblog caused me to wonder this....

What is necessary to enable purevideo? I thought it was the nvdvd software. Is that wrong? I haven't had to purchase the nvdvd software due to getting it with video cards, but evidently some people have. I have never tried to get purevideo working, so I am unsure.

To enable PureVideo you need the NVIDIA Video Decoder codec (which comes bundled with retail PureVideo Decoder software). It is also potentially possible for other decoders to expose the same functionality. The NVIDIA installer program may have set that codec to be the default, but another program like ffdshow could have overridden that. Use this program to set MPEG-2 decode to NVIDIA Video Decoder:

You only need NVDVD for the Purevideo enhanced DVD player.

Windows Media Player 10 freely makes use of Purevideo.

Don't know what you mean by NVDVD. Solely their player program? That's different than the actual PureVideo Decoder itself. NVDVD comes with the PureVideo decoder though.

Yeah they are sort of a package. Although If you don't like the NVIDIA DVD player you can use the Purevideo enhanced decoder in other media player software.

Thanks for clearing that up. NVDVD 2.0 came with my BFG 7800GT. I haven't installed it to see if it the trial version yet, but it doesn't say anything about being a trial on the CD and it has it's own pretty CD case and everything.

I know a full version came with my EVGA 5900SE back in the day, so if that is a trial I will dig that bad boy back out.

I don't know. NVIDIA NVDVD (even a trial) didn't come with my eVGA 7800GT. All I got was some crap called BeyondMedia and Victorian-age video drivers.
