I've got 2 PCs, one older machine i'm thinking about turning into an HTPC (P4 2.26, 1 GB RAM, and a Geforce 4 4400). I'm curious since I read somewhere that the Geforce 6 had some sort of "built-in" video acceleration that is enabled with PureVideo is the quality would be better on the Geforce 6 vs. the older Geforce 4.

did you read Anand's little article on the PureVideo technology? I have a 6200 + the purevideo dvd codecs on my htpc. it works well, but I've never owned a geforce 4 to offer a comparison.

I guess a better question would be, what hardware is on the Geforce 6 series that would allow it to be better at using the PureVideo Codec; if any. I did read the review, I think that the PureVideo codec is great.

There is no PureVideo support on the Geforce4. All the GF4 has is DXVA. Despite the fact that the codec is called PureVideo, that does not mean PureVideo is being used. Actually it can emulate it in software which I'm almost sure it does, so quality should be same across the board, with a slight advantage to the GeForce 6 in speed.
