Pure Video Wmv9 decode

I see there are lots of long threads about Nvidia pure video, but they mostly contain complaints that wmv9 decoding doesn't work on all cards. But I have read posts from people that claim they have got WMV9-decoding to work. I have a Geforce 6600 GT and I have installed the 67.03 drivers and latest Nvidia decoder. I can play DVD?s and HDTV content and have the Nvidia decoder decode that, but I can't get it to decode wmv9. The Nvidia decoder filter just isn't loading. In Anandtech's article it says that you need a patch for Windows Media Player. Is this patch available, or is there some other way of enabling wmv9-decoding?

I also have another strange thing on my Geforce 6600 card. When I play a wmv-clip a file named dxva_sig.txt is created that only contain the letter B. This happens with all players except Windows Media Player. Another strange thing is that in media player classic and Nvidias own nstant media utility the cpu doesn't go above ~80 % although the video plays very choppy. In media player the cpu is at 100% and it plays smoother.

The video processor wasnt functional on some 6800 cards. It works on the 6600 cards. Don't know about the other questions you asked though.

But I have a 6600GT card. I just don't get it to work. And although I get it to work on mpeg2 clips I don't see any benefit in cpu utilization when compared to the Intervideo decoder. Both hover around 60 % CPU on HDTV clips. If I turn off hardware decoding in the nvidia decoder however the cpu is always 100% and stutters like crazy.

Despite what anybody says, WMV acceleration isn't available for Nvidia or ATI cards currently. The Nvidia decoder only works for Mpeg decoding (works with both nvidia or ATI cards) and only is used in some programs like WMP.

The patch from MS is not available yet. WMV is decoded by the CPU.

Maybe it works? All the VP on 6xxx cards have the same level of functionality currently, they decode MPEG video with NV DVD decoders and Purevideo enabled drivers. Thats all.

I don't see any difference between my AIW 9700pro or eVGA6800 using NV DVD decoders with hardware acceleration enabled. Its almost as if Nvidia is just using DXVA acceleration instead of the VP and calling it "purevideo", because both my DX9 cards have a similar CPU utilization using the same software playing back DVD's or MPEG recordings from MCE.
