purchasing new video card (help)

I am purchasing a new video card i have a budget of 175$
I have agp 8x slot

Good or not?

I have an amdxp 2800+ processor 2.1ghz

It's a fairly nice card for the time.

You can save about $40 by finding the 128Mb version. You won't see any performance advantage with the extra video memory. Check the video card price guide on Anandtech's home page for vendor info.

All things considered, 9800 Pro is still a very solid performer if you don't want to spend $190 on a 6600GT AGP card.

The 9800 is not a bad card by any means, but when you can get slightly better performance for pretty much the same cost, there is no reason not to get the 6600GT.

another vote for 6600GT, but mine goes for the MSI version, which is $10 more.
