Purchasing New or Used Cell Phone?

I'm about to take the plunge that I pledged not to take just a year back: get a cell phone. Lately, it has become more and more of an issue with problems reaching me or my problems reaching others. After weeks of research, I've decided on a carrier and phone (Virgin Mobile Canda and Nokia 6275i).

So looking at the Virgin site, looks like they sell the "preloved" phone for $80 less (from regular $180); assuming they have some in stock. As long as it isn't broken, I am happy. However, from what I've seen in public, people are dropping phones all over the floor, and leaving them anywhere and everywhere.

So essentially, I'd like to know what to watch out for or know about refurbs/used mobiles...

***For the love of god, don't comment on the "preloved" part...

Edit: links screwy, scrapped it.

if it's a refurb from a mobile carrier, most likely they are returned phones with a new shell/battery and a short warranty. should be fine.
