Hello everyone,

I?m not sure if this is the right forum to ask this or not, but here goes :)

I was wondering if there is another way, a cheaper way to purchase Windows OS when building a new system besides the ?discount? you get for when you buy the hardware and software together. Even with this discount Win2k Pro and XP Pro are over 150 bucks. The reason I am asking is that I build 1-2 systems a month for people I know and I usually purchase from Newegg.com but I?d like my prices to be a little more competitive. I know what I build is better then Dell/Gateway/Compaq etc boxes but it?s always an uphill education with your customers on price/performance points :)

Thanks for any input.

Why paid for OS when you don't have too?

Dual boot your old Win98 will Linux.

I don't want to start a flame fest or anything but Linux is not the cure it all. And WinXP/2k is actually a large improvement over 98...

I agreed with you, but most if not all games play well under Win98, and Linux is great if you want stability when type a letter/spread sheet, coding or surf the net.

Dude... he asked for windows, please respect it and give him a windows answer. Linux not always the answer. True, windows is not either but not many people walk in and say 'can you build me a linux box?' Most of those people can do it themselves.

Thanks for the input guys I really appreciate it :) I am aware of bulk purchasing but it?s not really that much of a price break. I figured there was another solution I wasn?t aware of to get Windows on the cheap.

Yeah I wish customers were more understanding and open to new environments, but most people who have you build them a PC only understand all the brainwashing that advertising and their technically 'savy' family members have had to say and that's windows, windows and more windows...

I would love to be able to use open source stuff like Linux and Open Office but I don't have the willpower to convert everyone I sell to :)
