Purchasing a new Acura TL Type S

Looking at picking up a new Acura TL Type S and noticed that there is a $2000 "Marketing Incentive" available according to edmunds.com. Does anybody know if I should be able to negotiate for this in the price that I pay?

The dealership seemed pretty quick to offer the car at invoice. I am thinking that it is due to this $2k and was hoping to get maybe $1800 under invoice. Anybody here know if that is reasonable or should I be going after something even lower?

There's cash to customer deals and cash to dealer deals. This falls under the "to the dealer" category and usually isn't a bottom dollar rebate that you add in after the sales price.

Consider it a "rebate light".

This particular marketing incentive is thrown in to make room for the brand new generation of TL coming in summer of 08.

Just wait a couple of more months, you don't wanna spend 36k for a car and then have it go obsolete in 5 months.

Jason, DO NOT PAY INVOICE ON THIS CAR. That $2000 marketing incentive is part of the negotiable price.
I just bought an Acura TL-S myself. I paid $2000 under invoice, but I had to fight hard to get it. That should be your target. You do have to add the destination charge - that's non-negotiable. So invoice price is actually $35,117 plus a $750 destination charge, for a total of $35,867. So your target is $33, 867.

Some people claim to get even lower. That may or may not be true, but I don't start fighting to squeeze the last $100 from a sales guy. To get underneath invoice (minus incentives), you have to really fight them, and usually it means taking whatever is on the lot.

New 09 TLs should have an AWD option, which may be worth waiting and paying a premium for. However, the current TL-S is a decent car and a good bargain at 34k (or less). Even after all these years, its wedge styling remains fresh and attractive.

Just remember, buying an "outdated" model means you will likely take a greater hit on resale/depreciation which can hurt you if you trade in cars every few years.
