Purchasing a amd64 3200+, just need to know which mobo to get?

I dont know much about these mobo's for the amd64 chips so i was hoping you guys could help me out

Thank you. 🙂

I've been having the same delema for a long time. I'll bump my post regarding the three best motherboard to get for that processor.

I am almost positive that I am going to go with the Gigabyte board. I heard it's not the most user friendly board, but It's still my favorite brand. Plus it's an nforce rather than a via. Nvidia has better drivers and is known for stability. MSI got nothing but good reviews on newegg, and Asus is Asus. Amazing company, most likely amazing board as well. Whichever board you/I get, I'm sure we'll be happy. I'll tell you how the Gigabyte board is when I get it.

Good read. The Msi board looks really nice. Not sure if I want to stick with Gigabyte or not. Not trying to find fault, but the MSI board along with the Epox board has to be two of the most ugly boards I've ever seen. Who the hell chooses the colors for these things? Christ...

Newegg says that the MSI board supports Socket 754 Athlon 64 processors 3400+ and up. Not sure if 3200+ will work, but look into it before you buy it I guess.

Yes, the MSI board looks very nice. However, I have heard that there have been some problems with the quality of them.

The ASUS, I think, will be a sure thing and it supports the Mobile AMD64 3200+ DTR. It also depends on if you need a working AGP lock.

I ordered this setup this week... now the waiting 🙂

OK, 'nother question. Which AMD64 3200+ are you getting? The ClawHammer based one, or the Newcastle one? The older ClawHammer core one has 1 meg L2 cache and runs at 2.0ghz, the newer Newcastle has 512k cache but runs 2.2ghz (compare Link1 with Link2) I'm curious because I'm thinking of upgrading to a 3200+ and don't know which one to get.

Considering that the 3000+ and the 3200+ are almost the same speed in benches (cache being the only difference) I would go for the 2.2 ghz one. Maybe they run like the 3400+ ?

I'd steer clear of any MSI motherboard but thats just me, I have experienced and heardof many MSI boards being great boards for a few months or maybe even a year and then just dying or not being able to run high bus rates ect any more. Asus is a great brand and I would definatly purchase them again. I don't know much about bigabyte though but it seems decent.

Markfw900 is right though the 3000 is just about as good as the 3200 claw hammer core so if you need to save a little bit right there is the good option. Though newegg also has the newcastle core 3200's that run at 2.2Ghz but have half the cache which I would be willing to bet actually perform better the the old claw hammers as cache really doesn't seem to help AMD's architecture out much, while a boost in clock speed does. Good luc k with what you pick i'm sure any of them will blow your socks off.

I'm not saying it is ugly, but the PCB color of the motherboard doesn't determine nor affect performance.

I'll take performance > pretty.
