Hi ,

i have purchased two intel i7 4790k processor 1 month back but i just found that they both have the same S/N: and Batch#: and everything is same to same , is it original product ?

sorry for asking silly questions like this but i'am really worried if it is original or not , i hope you understand , thanks !

yes , they both working fine , but i need to know does intel make like this , they both have the same warranty period

Looks like you have got a cheap Chinese copy, I would be very cautious about using them in a production box. You never know, what kind of backdoor they may have put in place there :awe:

See.

i have purchased from local store and i got the bill also but in that bill they did not entered serial #
it make sense now , is there any way to claim original product

"overruns" from a "factory lot" in China? Of course, one would think Intel would have controls over these things.

Maybe they were packaging defective dice after-hours, and selling them on the grey market? (Edit: This happens with NAND and DRAM, so I hear. CPUs wouldn't be totally unheard of.)

if they work, i don't see the issue, no one else has the fabs/designs to make one except intel so it pretty much can't be fake if it works

How about some pics of the fake cpus.

run it thru cpu benchmark or something. I mean it's not like you can just "copy" a cpu like you can a watch or a purse, if it runs like i7/same cores and threads it can only be i7. Unless it was replaced with lower level intel cpu.
Only possible reasons for fake serial numbers:
1. Cpus were stolen from some computer shops or pulled from computers (used?)
2.replaced with cheaper dual core version (but same socket)

They could be real intel chips, but, not what they say they are.
Use CPU-Z or something along those lines, and see if it really is really a i7, and not a i3 or i5.
I would also request some pics to see what you are seeing...

Where do you see serial#? Is it on the box itself?

Well, if it passes CPU stability tests w/ AVX2 workloads (Prime95/LinX/IBT), I wouldn't worry about it. Also, you could give Intel a call for further clarifications. Can't comment on packaging.

Exactly, serial numbers are on the box. Batch numbers are on the CPU. Same batch isn't uncommon.

Serial number is printed on the CPU also, right? Does that matches with that on the box?

I don't believe that the serial number is laser-etched onto the CPU's heatspreader, only the batch number. I believe that Intel has internal tools to read the CPU's serial number out of the CPU's PI-ROM area using debug tools.

There are 2 serial numbers,one on IHS,one on PCB.Usually there's a qr-code as well.
See right side of this one

I'm pretty sure some grubby Chinese factory doesn't have the skill and expertise to do knock off i7 cpu's. If they do, someone hire them pronto. Clearly they are geniuses.

Interesting. Don't you need that for warranty purposes?
