I purchased a web camera in a Los Angeles county Walmart (tax is 9.75%) and returned it at an Orange County location (tax is 8.75%). The employee I returned it to stated they could only refund the 8.75% tax and so I lost 45 cents by not returning it to a LA County location.

Was this accurate and legal? I seriously thought there wouldn't be a problem with this. I think they made a mistake because this doesn't seem right. It was only 45 cents for me but, if they're doing something wrong or illegal, someone should say something otherwise there'll be a lawsuit someday (since there are many sue happy in our great state).

Thanks!

They're supposed to refund you the tax PAID because that is now tax that won't be going to LA county.

Sounds like Wal-Mart is up to shen. I bet if you bought the camera in the OC and returned it in LA they would give you the 8.75% tax.

It's like that scam in Office Space. All those pennies add up!
