Update: Bought the car tonight in Sterling Grey.

Dealer is offering $4,000 off MSRP for all Focus SEL & Titanium Models - $5,000 off MSRP for SE Hatchbacks that MSRP at $22,550. Sale ends today, last day of the month.

I've lost my car-pool ride and the commute is 45-miles one way to work.

Test drove on Saturday - thought I could do the SE but the cloth seats, lack of rear armrest & luxury features I'm accustomed to were disappointing. Driving dynamics were fine.

For an extra $1400 including sales tax over a similar SEL - Titanium packages gets me the 8" MyFordTouch Sony Audio system, blacked out headlights and the Smart Key system.

They upped my trade from $7,500 to $8,000 on Sat night and got me up to $8,660 on the phone yesterday.
2006 Saab 9-3 Aero 6spd Manual with 65,000 miles. Premium Package & Cold Weather Package. I paid $22K for it 4.5yrs ago and with Saab's demise I'm not feeling in the most comfortable position.

Getting parts for the Saab isn't going to be an issue IMHO. However, resale value has/will tanked. A bit surprised you're being offered that much for it to be honest.

As for the SEL vs Titanium. I know the SEL has the 8" myfordtouch available, not sure about the smart key. Then again, Titanium also gets 18" wheels IIRC. I recall reviewers stating they made a positive impact on handling.

I guess I figure this. If you plan on driving the car into the ground, keep the Saab. If plan on getting rid of it soon, the offer you have on the table sounds pretty darn good. Finally, I think my bro-in-law mentioned Ford has something like an 8% holdback. So, you may be able to work that price lower too...or it could explain why they can keep upping their offer for your trade.

18" wheels are an option, not standard - $595 I think

17" wheels and 215/50/17 are stock - and I'm not doing any serious corner carving

Between the dealer discount & high trade value - it might be the right time.

Thoughts?

$4 or $5k off MSRP seems like a decent deal. I'm in the Bay Area and checking incentives and the only thing that shows up is $2k cash back.

Buddy at work picked-up a Focus Titanium yesterday and loves it. Got it with a sunroof (odd that it's not standard in the trim, but anyway).

Great looking car, and the price looks right OP.

The 17"s will be more economical to replace, probably last longer (slightly more sidewall), ride a little better, handle 95% as well, and be less prone to curb rash. Imho the 17s are the way to go. Just a short time ago 14" and 15" were the standard sizes for compact car wheels.

I don't know if that's a good deal or not, but I will say I do like that car quite a bit.

17" tires are going to be cheaper than 18's. Depends on if you really want those 18's for the look. I personally don't care.

Focus was on my list but AWD was a requirement, so with a child on the way, I got an Outback instead. I go 40 miles one way to work, thankfully I get high 20's mileage, but I'd love to be getting Focus mileage right now.

I bought a brand new Focus 3 months ago. Titanium Hatchback. So far so good. Two issues that may bug you:

1) MyFord Touch - I love it but it is buggy. It integrates all my music well and is voice activated (I bought a Zune for it, but any usb hard drive or other mp3 player works well). Displays the album art which is a nice feature. It plays nice with my Android phone as well. A new update is coming soon that will address the responsiveness issues. This update is a major one (Version 1.0->2.0) that will also be included on all the Ford 2013 Model Year cars. See here: http://cnettv.cnet.com/new-myford-interface/9742-1_53-50115155.html

2) Dual Clutch Transmission - Some people don't like how it doesn't shift like a traditional automatic. The shifts are more "manual" like but computer controlled (it is physically a "manual" transmission). After the first 100 miles or so I didn't notice any bad shifts (did notice some in the beginning especially coming off of stop lights at low speeds).

I'm getting 29.5 MPG with mostly city driving (2600 miles in).

if you dont' mind me asking, what was your final price off the lot, not including the trade? IIRC when I was pricing out one with Titanium package, it was ~$28k not including fees but with a supplier discount.

Nice! Must post pics though! Lots and lots of pics.

I test drove one of these about 8 months ago and was really impressed with it.

Congrats on the new sled. And keep us posted on how you like it in 6 months and 1 year in.

Congrats man! From what I am hearing the MFT upgrade will be sent out to all the owners via USB key soon (I'm thinking end of Feb/early Mar).

MSRP $24,790
$2000 dealer discount

$22,790 Taxable @ 8.25%

($2000 rebate)
($8,500 trade)
$55 Doc fee
$29 DMV Fee
$7.50 Tire Fee
$250 registration fee (Approximately)

2012 Focus Titanium with one option checked (401A package)
$1,295
Rain Sensing Wipers
Leather seats with 6 way power driver
Reverse Parking Sensors
Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror
Rear Armrest with Storage

They were giving $5K off SE Hatchbacks - MSRP $22,550 - $17,550 your price.
For $3,250 extra I got:
17" wheels
Upgraded interior trim
Climate Control
Leather seats (401A package)
Smart Key
8" My Ford Touch - 10 speaker Sony with 10" sub
Blacked Out lights

But I lost:
Cold Weather Package of $470

I wanted the heated seats but they had none on the lot with Titanium, 401A & Cold Weather. They had a bunch of Titanium without 401A and Cold Weather. Or like you said a bunch of $28K Titanium's with Nav, Self Parking, 401A, Cold Weather package & Moonroof + $395 extra for "candy paint"

Car had 9-miles on it.

Nice! Must post pics though! Lots and lots of pics.

Brought it home last night at 9pm, first I thing I did was break out the screwdriver and remove the paper plates and license plate frames. No dealer advertising.

Needs the rear Hatch & back seat windows tinted ASAP!

I've noticed that quite a bit with the Titanium models around here. They have the self park feature (which I have absolutely zero interest in). I do want the moonroof and the heated seats would be nice. I definitely want the MFT and the leather though.

Nice choice on the color too. I like that color. White with gray/black interior is also in the running.

Yea the self park feature while cool has little use to me. However it does include the backup camera and front parking sensors which I do find useful so I got that package.

So which is it Jules? New Focus or 2013 Fusion? I'm kind of diggin the Fusion - the front reminds me of an Aston Martin.

Titanium Package only comes with Black Leather! I rather like the light colored interiors and sat in a Stone Leather SEL. After handling a normal Focus key, I soon realized I had to have the Smart Key that comes on the Platinum package - not an option on lower models.

I really wanted a hatchback & good fuel economy - Lots of other cars were great but in hatchback flavor the Focus is top of the class. I know a lot of folks love their Mazda S's but I really dislike the looks and feel the interior is cheap.

The Focus is missing a few features I would have liked - Memory seats, power passenger seat, and integrated roof rack mounting points. The Hyundai Accent hatch has integrated roof rack mounts as did my Saab.

Not sure. I like the new Fusion too but ultimately it will depend on availability, driving impressions, and the deals that can be had when I'm looking to buy. The Focus hatch is a strong contender still.

If it go with the Fusion it will have to be the Hybrid because I want the fuel economy.

Hi Fmr12B, if you don't mind me asking, which Bay Area dealer did you buy from, and how would you rate the experience? I might be in the market for a Focus later this year.

Second that. Also in the SF Bay area, also thinking of picking up a Focus (Titanium probably).
