Guys I have been reading and reading and reading, I am about to go off the deep end and build my new machine. I have basically built this thing about 100 times in my head, and after reading here and dfi streets I have to say I am without a doubt making a informed decision.
I want nothing more than the baddest machine I can build within my budget The last thing I have to decide on is the cpu. $380 is what I ahve left for my cpu/ fan and heatsink

You guys have given me so much information that I am now further away from making a decision :) Give me your opinions please All I really do is media, games usenet, winrar quickpar and I would like to do them all at once, hence the dual core focus. All opinions and advice will be appreciated and entertained Thanks

IF you are getting a DFI board, I'd definately go Opteron 165 + a nice Air cooler (Big Typhoon, or XP-90/120. You should easily be able to OC the opteron 165 to 2.2-2.4GHz perhaps higher if you are willing to push your system a bit.

First thank you for the quick response, Secondly can you tell me why its A better choice to go with the 165 over the 170 other than the obvious $77 difference in price

becuase with the dfi board you will be able to hit the 300+ htt speeds needed for a nice overclock. And since the 165s and 170s probably oc about the same, save yourself the 77 bucks and use it for a nicer video card or more ram.

I have the same doubt. Even with the DFI, I would go with a 10x.

The 9x is a killer to me. I don't like to have the HTT so high (300+) - it is not 100% sure to work. With 10x you can get good speed @ 260~280.
