So I just noticed on AT main page:

You've landed on mobile news on AnandTech. It features a collection of all of our independent mobile content and is sponsored by Intel.

How does "independent" sound with the "sponsored" in the single sentence.

Also, The collection has all of independent mobile content. Does it have non-independent content also?

Yeah, I knew stuff like this was going to happen once Anand left. Technically it had been occurring more and more frequently here, but all the stops have been removed since he left. I'm sure people make mistakes, but errors like the one mentioned above seriously erode the claim that Anandtech is "unbiased" and scientific in their reviews.

Being frank for a moment: I feel like Anandtech is really turning into another Tom's Hardware. Anandtech is my first stop for tech articles, but at the same time, I don't feel it's right for me to have to sniff through articles to find out if it's biased or not. Overall for now I'm done with this site until the new team realizes how much the Anandtech community values having unbiased reviews and not 3239103 ads on the front page/sponsored reviews. I mean for most of us, this is the reason WHY we don't use THW.

Hi Erenhardt, the short answer is that "sponsored" means that Intel has purchased the ultimate banner advertisement, but that's it.

From a content/advertising standpoint there has and still is a firewall between the two. Intel's deal to get their logo on the top of the mobile news section has no impact on the editorial side, as among other things the mobile editors were not involved in this deal and continue to pursue the stories they are interested in.

Also, there isn't any non-independent content. That phrase is thrown in there to make it clear that this was all independent content, as it always has been.

And so it's noted, this deal was already in progress before Anand left.

I'm not native English speaker and It did sound quite strange to me.
I think a logo alone, without any 'flavor' text, would be enough and self-explanatory

Q. What does this mean for the community policies and the way things work in the forum?

It’s a lively, passionate crowd and that’s a big part of what makes Anandtech awesome. If there’s anything that does end up needing to change, it will happen slowly, at your urging, and with the Anandtech community’s direct input.

To be clear, that was not a Purch decision. That was a request from the moderation staff that I personally approved.

VC&G was getting out of hand and changes were necessary.

I agree with Ryan here. I know there is another thread about this, but the change there was a long time coming and I wouldn't be surprised if another subforum has a similar change down the road. I didn't detect this being a Punch decision at all, and I don't think we need to be shooting blame to them for every change that occurs from here on out.

Yup, folks. Neither Joe nor anyone from Purch had anything to do with this. It percolated up from our VC&G mods and was discussed and fretted over for, literally, months before the Admins and then Ryan gave the go ahead.
