Puppy Chewed the monitor cable: Part II

Ok, for those who don't know, my daughter's puppy chewed her monitor cable. IBM G94 monitor with an internal connector at the monitor end. IBM doesn't have one. Hitachi, which made the monitor says they don't have one. Here are my proposed solutions. Which is best?

1. Replace the entire cable and resolder the old internal connectors to the new cable. I've purchased 2 high grade SVGA cables. I could use one of them for this approach.
2. Keep the good half of the cable, with molded strain relief that fits nicely around the entry point of the monitor, and solder a female HD15 connector to the pins. With this solution, I can always replace the cord by simple unscrewing it from the female plug. But not real elegant looking.
3. Simply solder the two ends to the chewed cable together. In which case I'd have a big bulge in the middle of the cable, and would probably lose some shielding and maybe degrade the quality of the picture.

Which one? I wanted a new cable, but that isn't in the works and this is a pretty expensive and still fairly young monitor.

Thanks for your views.

ExplodingBoy: I've already taken the cable out of the monitor. I steered clear of the flyback transformer!

Hey chess, the same thing happened with mine, my puppy also chewed the monitor cable, except she didn't have teeth, well atleast she had little ones, anyways, she chewed the thick part that's right by where it plugs into the video card. 😀

You play chess? What's your rating?

I'd try option 3. If you strip the insulation away about 1.5 inches on both ends, apply small shrink tubing to each wire before soldering, solder and heat shrink, then wrap the joint in Electrical tape, the cable won't be that fat. The loss of such a small amount of shielding shouldn't be a problem.

DaddyG: That might be the best solution, although the cord will end up being about 5' long. I can use one of the cords I bought as an extension cord, I guess. I took it to a shop about an hour ago. I'm waiting to hear what he suggests.
