This is the third charger she has gnawed the end off of. Its always the end that plugs into the laptop, so I have to buy the brick and all. Grrrr.

Lappy is a Dell 1505. Any ideas on where to get a new charger (Fvck ebay) or how to stop her from chewing on the damn thing?

Don't leave it where she can get her teeth on it.

Sounds like you need to do some puppy-proofing in your house.

Spray it with Bitter Apple. Also, don't leave it on the ground for her to be able to get at it.

as in the plug is gone? You can go to the electronic store and buy the plug and solder it back on.

I had the lappy in bed with me last night (damn insomnia). It was plugged in when I crashed, but when I woke up it was dead and the end was chewed off another charger.

Proven fact: Puppies love Dell chargers. My puppy chewed three of them, the last one luckily is still usable. I had them hidden under the couch too, he shoved his little face under there and pulled it out. The third one I was using at the time and he was laying at my feet, chewing on a bone and decided the cord was a tasty treat as well.

Dog has to learn that it's bad to chew wires. When my dog was a puppy, he chewed on a lamp powercord and got shocked. We had to kick him off of the cord, because he was frozen and shaking. He never chewed wires after that.

Oh yeah.. when we kicked him (gently) off of the cord, he shit on the carpet..

My Advice, place a lamp cord in the open, where he can access it.
Make sure to be around, when it happens. If not, your dog will be cooked.

Why is she not crated at night? If she's doing stuff that could result in death, why are you not protecting her?

She's just a puppy. One of you has to act like the adult.

She is crated when I am out and about during the day. I feel bad leaving her crated at night. I think this is the last straw though.

You're going to feel a hell of a lot worse when you find a dead puppy on a cord somewhere.

This

Also crate training is useful, and supervise your puppy!

Worst advice ever, Dead puppies FTL! I did laugh when I read it, though. :D

Borrow a shock collar and zap it when the dog gets close to the wire/charger.

I had this crappy extension cord that passed under my bed. I went to reach for one of my cat's toys that fell between the wall and bed, only to feel something rough. Turned out to be copper bits sticking out from a chewed cord. BAD cat. She got lucky she only chewed on one side of the cord. Threw it out, got a heavy duty outdoor one. She's also tried to chew the cord for my UPS but its too thick so her teeth wont sink in it before I catch her and stop her.

I don't know why animals like power cords so much.

As much as you hate ebay, it's a great source for dell adapters. Or you can just pay Dell $50-60.

Keep in mind many non-Dell chargers will work only to power the laptop and will not charge the battery due to proprietary BS Dell has built into the adapters.

I got two (a 90W PA10, and ultra slim PA12/DK138 65W for travel and portable use a for my D400) from ebay and they were like new. About 50% of Dell's cost.

When I was at my gf's house her parents puppy just about chewed through my HP charger. It started shorting out a few weeks ago. I wrapped it all up in electrical tape and I hope it will keep going. I can't afford a new one. I sure smacked the pup upside the head though. Didn't have that problem anymore.

Since we're on the subject, my schnauzer got hold of the rubber strap that is on the power supply which is used to wrap up the cord. While he didn't chew up the band, he gnawed off the plastic hook that secures the band to itself.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement hook?

I used to put habenero juice on stuff, but the damn dogs liked it. Now they eat chips and salsa with me, but they just lick the salsa off the chips, lol!
