Pulling trigger on a Lenovo laptop...

the hard drive is gonna be slow 😛

since we dont know why you want what youve picked out, you may not get as good as advice as youre looking for. personallyt id rather have an X series for that kind of money

I want something very light, that's about it... I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of performance for size and weight.

A X200 would be a better choice IMHO. The size is very similar but with much better performance. The processor is much faster and the availability of much better HD's. With the larger battery the battery life will be just as long, and it will only weigh a half pound more. 3.5lbs vs. 3lbs is pretty negligible to me. I am not seeing a big benefit of going with the U110.

thats exactly what i was thinking. but i was lazy 🙂

if performance doesnt matter then i dont know why youd want to spend so much on this. if you *just* want light, then a netbook will do what you want. same size/weight but for less than half what youre looking at

now, if you want light weight *and* want to do something else specific, i still say an x series would work. youll get a great laptop with good specs, thats only a tad larger, and either save a lot or get more for your money.

If you do decide on the ideapad get it from lenovo direct and use this code USPIDEAPAD15 , save you 15% and free shipping.

i would so go with that if it had a touchpad!!

I didn't purchase the Ideapad yet.... I'm actually thinking of the ASUS "ultraportable" laptop now

mmmm leather

Have you ever used a Thinkpad pointing stick? I was skeptical before I got my X61 but after the first days use I could not stand using my wife's 1530 due to the track pad. I will only by Thinkpad's from now on. I really like the stick that much better. Even with the scroll zones there still is no match IMHO.

i, too, am hooked on the trackpoint. after a few days with the t40 i had i turned the trackpad off. i never liked them anyway. theyre too easy to brush over and awkward to use. i *had* to get a thinkpad when it was time to upgrade (also, i love the thinklight 😉 )

QFT. I love the trackpoint. My Thinkpad doesn't have a touchpad so it makes it even more sleek. Because I love it so much, my next laptop will definately be a Thinkpad.
