Pulled Quadricep (sp) - How long should I be out?

I play baseball and last Friday I tore my quadricep (that muscle that runs between your knee and hip and the front of your leg?) and hoo boy, does it hurt to run.
I've missed the last two games and sitting out sucks. For you fitness gurus, how long do you think this'll last? I've never really had an injury thats kept me from playing before, but I think I usually heal a little fast?

And also, what can I do to help speed the whole process up? I've been icing it internittently, and resting as much as possible.

yea my dad tore both quadricepts and he had to go to the hospital so they could staple it...sounds like you really didnt tear it or else you wouldn't be able to walk @ all...he wasn't able to walk w/o crutches for a couple of months

Alright... so maybe I didn't tear it, but it's pretty badly pulled.

('scuse me for a little embellishment) 😀

There isn't much a Dr. can do for a pulled muscle. If you can move your leg in all directions, it's just pulled, not torn.

A muscle pull takes an average of 2-4 weeks to heal. And your return to physical activity should be slow and careful.

Trust me on this, the only thing worse than a pulled muscle is a RE-pulled muscle that is reinjured because you went back to the activity too soon.

No, there isn't anything that can speed up the healing process. Warm compresses and advil can make you more comfortable, though. But be careful, they can make you so comfortable that you continue to injure yourself by being too active.

I slipped on wet grass playing softball in college and pulled both quadriceps. It took about 2 weeks to heal, but I also didn't do any activity more than walking for a while after that even. Funny part was, I could barely walk and looked like I had a load of crap in my pants when I did!
