Pulled muscle?

I was wondering if anyone had experience. I've gone through many years of football, wrestling and track and I don't ever recall something this bad.

On my right shin, towards the exterior part of it (if you are dividing the leg into the calf in the back, and splitting the frontal area into left, middle (where the shin is) and the right. Anyway, as I was saying, I'm talking about the right exterior part of it.

It started a while back, perhaps three games ago. At first I thought it was just a sore muscle, but it's been getting worse during every game until today. Now instead of the pain just being there when I run or move, it's there constantly. There's also a huge bump now, that stretches from the bottom of my knee and goes towards my ankle, sort of a straight line but ends up wrapping around the back of the leg, towards the bottom where it hurts, there's a huge bump. I thought I just cramped up the muscle there, but I don't seem to see any muscle on the left leg that equates with the one on the right.

So yeah, I don't think I've felt an unceasing pain like this ever... is it just a nasty pulled or cramped muscle?

This is what I found on some website:

A muscle tear may be partial or complete and caused either by a direct blow or by overexertion. There are three degrees of muscle ruptures. A first-degree strain involves less than 5 percent of the muscle. You may notice only mild pain and not lose much strength or range of motion. We sometimes refer to these mild tears as pulled muscles.

A second-degree tear is a greater rupture that stops short of a complete tear. Any contraction of the torn muscle will cause pain. With either a first- or second-degree tear, you may feel a defect of the muscle - a bump or an indentation - at the site of the most pain. You should be able to partially contract the muscle, but you may not be able to walk or stand without pain or a limp.

A third-degree rupture is a complete tear across the width of the muscle. You will be unable to contract the muscle. This is what happens when someone suddenly drops while sprinting. The torn end of the muscle may ball up and form a large lump under the skin, and a great deal of internal bleeding occurs. Severely torn muscles may require surgery to heal properly.

Expand your thinking, it could be a stress fracture. See a doc and get some x-rays right away.

Hmmm... turns out it was some compartment syndrome injury. There was internal bleeding which couldn't go anywhere which then pinched a bunch of nerves. Had surgery and my leg is still open right now, waiting till Wednesday to close it up...

All through high school, I never went to the hospital, play some stupid games in college and I get messed up... ironic.
