I think it could pertain to a son leaving, but more than likely it pertains to an ex-girlfriend. I think it is about a breakup where the girlfriend left a guy with the help/advice of her friends. He still really loves the girl and wants her in his life, and he feels crushed.

Maybe it sounds like that to me because I went through that not too long ago...

when they were at our local radio station (99x) he said it was for his illegitimate son (i think he said illegit) and how his ex-gf/wife whatever won't let him see his kid as much as he wants. which kinda fits with the video, in which i believe stars his son.
