I've seen some wireless setups in public locations (like Hotels) that seem to be open, but once you connect to them, your homepage on your browser changes to a screen provided by the host, and it requires you to log in. Basically it is set up so that you call the front desk, get a code then you are able to "log in" to their network.
Does anyone know how this is set up? Is this an option on some wireless controllers/routers? Our school keeps getting nagged by the teachers and students that they want to be able to use our network on their personal devices. We want to be able to control it somehow, not just wide open or a PSK that everyone will eventually know as a result of word of mouth. Ideally we would like some solution that provides temporary keys, and still routes them through our proxy, without having to make any changes to their personal devices.
We currently use a cisco WCS, purchased about 4 months ago, I don't know the model # off the top of my head, so I'm not sure if it has this capability built in, or if it is hardware that needs to be purchased.
