I'm sorry Viper, but the first thing I did when I looked at your title was "LOL" and I knew exactly what the thread was in reference. I laughed NOT b/c of what happened, but b/c of the saracastic tone of your thread title.
 
While they may have helped them survive a little while, in water like that the life expectancy is no more than an hour or so. You should have them on though because you never know when the rescue may happen, could be 5 min if another boat is near and sees it.
