Applied for a job that needed government security background check. Got this in the mail, says it reported this to my employer (hiring agency). I don't know what it means...says I don't owe anything, etc. I checked around to see what it means but couldn't get any answers. Doesn't say which state or anything. Anyone knows what it means?

form

ps - my dad and I share names (I'm a Jr.) and I already have stuff on my credit erronously credited to me...such a pain to take care of...I wonder if this is because of him...there is no way I have deeds of $7500...

looks like an outstanding mortgage amount or tax lien against a piece of property. the "recorder" is the county office that tracks all deeds, mortgages, state tax liens, and other items attached to a particular piece of real property (land) with in that county.

call your county recorder or go there and see which property the lien is attached to or if it has been released.

Call your county and the bank that placed the lien as well as the credit agency to have it removed if it does not belong to you. You'll probably have to hound after them because while they are quick to put stuff on your credit report, they can be slow to remove them.

thank you for your suggestions...I haven't called Transunion, and I don't know what state tax agency to call (they don't name which state). It must be a mistake cause I have NOTHING worth $7500 and never owned property. I bet it's from my father...this is like the third time this has happened if it's from my father...

Good luck. I worked for Equifax for a couple of years and can tell you that Jrs and other "heir" type names are a constant point of frustration for credit agencies. Especially with older records.

Use the link that conjur posted to contact Transunion and contest it asap. Take care of the rest after that.

You should also pull your 3-in-1 report from myfico and check for various spellings of your name. Submit a letter to all three bureaus with a copy of your driver's license and tell them to remove all names that do not match.

It worked for me in getting some liens removed from Equifax. EX and TU won't budge, though. :(
