Public Enemy!

I'm in a retro mood tonight, listening to some old school Public Enemy.. I'm not really in to hip hop at all but for their time Public Enemy was pretty impressive. Back in the late 80's their style was so different from everything else and spurred a new genre of music, especially when they collaberated with Anthrax. I wonder if groups like Rage Against the Machine would have ever made if not for their talent. I know they were very controversial back in the day, but listening to them now, I see a lot of crossover with todays music.

🙂 Ah, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. PE is still all that. Nothing controversial, just spoke their mind on The Man thats all. Its all about the Fear of the Black Planet 🙂..............yea boy

Required listening:

Don't Believe the Hype
Burn Hollywood Burn
Fight the Power
Gotta Do What I Gotta Do
Welcome to the Terrordome

I tossed out an old CD case and in the process went through my old CD collection. Grabbing a handful, I found PE on the top .... I'm also playing some PE during this week, just to scare the co-workers !
Nighttrain

LOL, I think I was 13 when I first heard Welcome to the Terrordome. Between them, the Beastie Boys and Guns and Roses the stage was set for some wild and reckless teenage years 🙂

Get up get get get down
911 is a joke in yo town
Get up get get get down
Late 911 wears the late crown!!

I used to love them in college. Memorized all their songs.

Yeeeaaahh boiiii!

BTW, I was trying to remember their names a few weeks ago but what was the name of the bodyguard group that Chuck D mentioned a lot in his songs? The guys that always dressed up but never spoke.

LOL

That's right.

Thanks!

Fear of a Black Planet is one of the finest rap albums ever made. It's a work of art.

Flavor Flav is on the new Surreal Life. Keep an eye out for that. I think they've already aired an episode or two.

Well, it will be hard for them to be forgotten, as Fight The Power is basically now immortalized since it appears so much in the great film "Do the Right Thing".

Public Enemy just released a new song in colaboration w/ Moby. It's pretty good if you like PE's old stuff.

It's called Make Love F**k War. It's downloadable on Moby's site (moby.com)

Fear of a Black Planet was my first forray into rap music. Much better than that shite that's put out nowadays...
