Public Apology to all Floridians: I'm sorry.

My mother-in-law mentioned to me the other night that this is unusual weather for Florida... and of course it didn't really start until I moved down here a couple months ago.

So here it is... I'm sorry. But I'm not moving out, unless you all want to pony up money for me to. :cookie:

It's not you, dear. It's the millions of people from 'up north' (not including our snow birds who just visit during the winter) who move down here because we have more affordable housing and no state income tax. You can literally sell your house up north and buy a mini-mansion down here for as little as 300-400K. 200K buys quite a lot as well. And then there are minimal impact fees on new houses (it's a joke really) so nothing like new schools get built until the existing schools reach critical mass. And greedy developers keep filling in sensitive wetlands so that they can make more money with more lots to sell... really, each new neighborhood is just a flood waiting to happen.

I could go on and on... but the point is, it isn't you. It's the pathetic government that allows ill-thought out development to go unchecked. Florida used to be a somewhat backwards state that was still beautiful, with lots of undeveloped land. Now it's a somewhat backwards state with suburban sprawl everywhere you turn.

😛

Don't blame yourself. I have the same bad luck.

If I was there you would have monsoons. 🙁

Florida sucks. It's hot and muggy and flat and there are no left turn lanes.

Every street in my town has left turn lanes...

Every major street in my town has dual left turn lanes. Also, the breeze from the approaching hurricane has made the weather quite pleasant. 😉

I don't know about the absense of left turn lanes but I agree with you. I've been to Florida twice.

First time for Disney World. I personally hate hot, humid weather and Disney World was terribly boring so that was a bust.

The second time I went, I drove to Florida State University with a bunch of buddies. The weather wasn't as bad but it was still sticky. We went on a weekend when Florida was playing Missouri or something in football and during spring break so the campus was literally dead.
