Russ, a PTE is when people pool together some work units for a member of the team who has gone out of his/her way for the team.

In effect, dennilfloss could be considered a worthy candidate if he was running independantly.

I think that is it (PTE). I might be wrong.

EDIT: The last one I was involved in was a mini-PTE for Jator to make him TA's 100th millionaire.

As SS59 stated, Project Total Eclipse

Based on the principle "It's better to give than receive" and started by MechBgon, certain members of the team are secretly targeted (for various reasons) for block donations, a private perproxy is set up to save the blocks, and then the blocks are released on PTE day. I think Netopia has been the target of the last PTE, PTE V. 😀

They are great fun, especially when the "victim" has no clue as to what's going on. 😀

It's one of the things I love about this team. 😀
 
yes PTE day (i belileve its jan 16 each year?) is definelty one of Team AnandTechs finer points, and makes me proud to be a member.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the original PTE we did for ViRGE, instigated by Jator (the Grand Instigator). 🙂

What I meant was that you were doing PTEs long before they became official, and your fine example of secretly donating blocks is what fueled the PTEs to begin with. 🙂

As far as who started this last PTE, I claim senility. :Q

I seem to recall that several people were pushing ViRGE on a daily basis, all I said was let's store the work and dump on a certain day. bphantom was the one who set up the proxy and the ppstats for it.

BTW, if anyone has the log file from the IRC chat that night please share with everyone here, it was hilarious. ViRGE was so worried someone had had a client and put his name on it. I was in tears!!!!

Ah yes, the "good ole days" 😉 That was SO much fun ViRGE, we just have to share it with the newer members of the team! 😉

PF, *I* know you still do. 🙂 Every ten days or so I have a client trying to connect to the old pte pproxy location. You might want to redirect it to proxy.teamanandtech.com or core.teamanandtech.com. with port 2064. 🙂

you flush to the proxy I have setup, I will hold the blocks for a period of time (undetermined) and then on mega WOOSH!
