Psycho Client - What should I do?

So I had this really dumb web design client, she ordered all this work, and when it came time to pay, she ended up flaking on some of the bill. It also took her 8 months to pay a small portion, and some of her checks bounced over this time period. She gave me the run around a bunch of times, delaying payments.

So she recently made a small payment (after one check bouncing), and demanded that I give her the files, even though she still owes $1200. So I sent her the portions she paid for so far, and since some of the site was missing (not paid for), she started going psycho and sending threatning emails.

She sent me links to the FBI, and then a bunch of short emails saying she reported me to the FBI for suspecion of terrorism.

I have nothing to hide, and all the email trail proves she's psycho. But now I have to worry about the FBI doing an investigation and me having to proove everything. Plus I'll probably never get the $1200 she owes.

If worse comes to worse, is there anything I could take her to court for? Harassment?

IANAL but I do believe you could sue her for services rendered but payment never received or something along those lines. Granted you have not given her all of the files that you generated for the job but you did create them which was on your time which was on the bill. Good chance of a harassement lawsuit too as I do believe e-mail is admissable as evidence nowadays. I doubt much will come of the whole FBI thing as they get plenty of psycho emails and will probably just ignore hers.

Yeah you can't take her to any ordinary judge, you need to get her in front of a judge that will totally bitch her out.

If she has randomly accused you of terrorism, hit her with slander and harassment charges immediately. Get your lawyer on the phone ASAP.

I thought it was <$5000

it's whatever the state decides it should be. it isn't like there is a national standard for these things.

i swear the lack of knowledge about the legal system...

The FBI has run your name through the MATRIX database and you've come up clean, otherwise you would be in jail already.
Sue her in small claims court for your money and bank charges for the bounced check. Bring the files on a disc. When the court orders her to pay, give her the files.
Case closed.
I am surprised that you wouldn't have something on paper that says in effect, you get your files when we get paid.

Not if you're going to small claims, but if she is calling the FBI to tell them you're a terrorist...Id consider getting a lawyer.

The FBI has bigger things to worry about. Either take her to small claims and get your money or call the local police on her.

Or napalm her ass.

He has a signed contract with all that stated. She would get her ass handed to her in court.

That wasn't stated in the OP.
Then, by all means, take her ass to small claims court. Let her explain to the judge what all that "I called The FBI" stuff is about.
