My wife and I are building a crack rack, and we've set a limit for $25 per component of the rack. This has worked well enough for most of the components, but now I'm getting to the point that I need some PSUs, and it's getting interesting.

Would the cheap POS PSUs work for powering machines like P3's & P2's, or would I be better off scalvaging for decent PSUs in used markets?

What are ya'lls thought?

EDIT: And I've been searching the PSU calculators, and none of them have P2 or P3's on them, so I'm not even sure about the power requirements for these machines. I'm sure it is in the 100-250 watt range.

Also, I thought it might be worth mentioning that these PSUs will be used for computers that will be in my garage, which gets very hot during the Texas summer.

Go to directron.com and they have decent 400W (even 500W) PSU's for less than $25.00. Better yet, these are dual fan PSU's so you do not have to worry about overheating.

Along with directron, look over at eWiz.com for FSP Group, Sparkle & Enhance.
There are quite a few <$25.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSUInquisitor on the left, Takaman's PSU Calculator.
Lots of older gear is listed. The site is down atm, he must be working on it.

Get your landlord to vent the garage as per my PM. That alone could make a 20F difference.

like galv said, check out ewiz. they're a good company and you should definitely hit your budget there. i doubt you'll need anything approaching 400w. too bad svc doesn't have those refurbished sparkles anymore.

soviet, just google it, i'm sure theres pics and info about. used mostly for dc projects afaik.

You go google image search "crack rack" and tell me if you see anything conclusive. I saw a magazine rack, some pool balls, an indian, and somones ass crack. I googled and image searched it before i asked. Needless to say, i still dont know what it is.

It's generally open componets ie. no case, set up for folding or DC. iirc.
He's setting up several systems with older hardware on shelving.
You asked, so now he WILL post pics...Lots of pics :p

Okay, here's my pics:
The crack rack, as of right now, AKA Chocobo Farm

fan mod. It is going to be the center piece glued to mesh on the false ceiling throughout the shelves, to provide airflow to the bare machines. (Oh, the outer mount is there to hold the mesh in place while the glue dried). This should work. (and this was my wife's idea, so thank lizardth for me).
My wife is crunching on her machine, as is my machine!!.
