Psuedo Sata Problem

It's an Abit NF7-S mb with the funky sata adaptor. I had a WD 80G hooked up for over a year as my sata drive. Now I moved that to an external and put in another Maxtor 80G. First I didn't have it as master so it didnt read and just locked up windows. Now I have it as master and it reads the sata drive first then locks up in the dimmed windows startup screen. Works fine without sata hooked up. Any suggestions? Thanks All.
