PSU "whistling" noise

so i opened up my PSU just to see what was in there, unlike the curious cat i did not get fried by the capacitor, and then i sleeved the PSU cables. Now my PSU is making a loud "whistling" noise, i thought it was a fan at first but when i opened it up it definatley wasn't the fan, and i don't want to have it on for long if its making a strange noise and i don't want to put my ear to close to it if its going to fire/explode. One thing i think may be the problem is i didn't put all the ground wires in exactly where they came from, i kept them in where ground wires came from, would that do it. Just so you all don't think im a dumb ass, i plugged the PSU into a old crappy mobo that i have

PSU: Antec True Power 480

Why mess with it? IF it aint broken then dont fix it.

Did you accidentally do something, that would constrict the airflow, and cause that whistling noise? or is there a piece of sleeving, that it sticking out and is in the way of the fan's blades? (Kind of like a bicycle noisemaker that you put between the spokes when you were a kid?)

Those are the only two things that I can think of... unless you bumped one of the inductors in the circuit, and now it has started "singing" when the PSU is operating, usually they are hot-melt-glued to something to keep them from doing that.

Dude, you said "so you dont think im a dumbass" ...but, did u actually read your post?..believe me to the naked eye, you come of as a mongole

So you opened up your PSU "to see what it looks like inside" ...were u on amfetamines at the time?

Also this one : "i didnt put all the ground wires back where they were" could that be not good?

"dont want to put my ear to close in case it explodes" dude, you are a retard haha

Not sure what to say but this: just say no lol

Chill out gamerj; it's not that big of a deal opening a power supply. Also, it was a good idea not to put your ear too close, as caps can explode if connected incorrectly.

I would think maybe if you sleeved the wires together it could create extra inductance / capacitance between the lines which might mess with the switching supply; some of the components can make noise. I would try to take off the sleeving and see if it stops. If not, put it back on and just keep an eye on it.

the sleeving isn't inside the PSU, ididn't feel like messing with all the wires in there and i didn't have enought sleeving material to do the wires all the way up.

Yea, to the naked eye it probably seems pretty stupid, but in a curious person and i like taking things apart to see how they work.

i may not of put the ground wires back exactly where they came from, but they are in the places that a ground wire shoudl be and the position is consitent thru the string of wires that i was working on (AKA i kept the same ground wire next to the red connector the whole time).

dude, if i got close and it shocked or exploded on me whould i seem stupid then.

I think im gonna drop antec a line to see what they have to say.

Let me know what they say. I have the exact same PSU and it's not the quietest thing around. The last PSU that I had started making a high pitched whistling sound before it went out.

the PSU is running in a open air situation, no case, and the sleeves are not into the PSU so it could not be that. And by using my ear it seems like it is coming from the center of the PSU
