Is that HD4870X2 in crossfire or 2 HD4870 in crossfire?

for Dual HD4870 I would go for 650+Watts. For dual HD4870X2...I would go for 800+ Watts.

Obviously brand and model also matter.

ATI has units as low as 900W certified for dual 4870X2. A really good 800W unit like the BFG ES-800 or other good quality 850W plus units would do. Or get a 1000W PSU, plenty of options there, although there are not as many for 1200W units.

how do you guys like that

well here is my problem. I ordered this and I need it to be enough power. if I open the box and it won't handle a full load then I'm screwed and can't return it for a refund. if I need a bigger PSU I have to know immediately because in 5 days I'll be in school.

psu listed above is only 10 bucks more after mir so do you suggest it or not?

Like I said...ATI has listed PSUs as low as 900W as being certified for dual HD4870X2.

The Corsair 1000W is more than enough. Don't listen to anandtech, their claims are preposterous. They even claimed you need a 1200W PSU for dual HD4850...which is just ridiculous.

I don't mean to be an ass here but one of the general hardware mods said this

do you still believe undoubtedly that 1000 is enough? if so I'll keep it and open it but if you have any doubt let me know.

ATI HAS CERTIFIED SEVERAL 900W PSUS FOR DUAL HD4870X2 (Wow, these forums are kinda echoing...)

ATI's official list of PSUs recommended.

MarcVenice also had this to say

Here's the recommended list from ATI for crossfired HD4870 X2's. http://game.amd.com/us-en/cros...ex_components.aspx?p=3

True Power Quattro 1000W (TPQ-1000) can run two, which is 'just' $199. That silverstone isn't on the list but I bet it will work.

The HX1000 is a better PSU than the TPQ-1000

Buy a single HD4870X2, no need for a crossfire board like that.
.

Buy whatever you want with your money. It seems to me that you want someone to convince you to buy a 1200W PSU. No need to even ask the question if you are that set on getting a 1200W PSU.

yeah I see that and it isn't on the list but I'll hope for the best. worst case it doesn't work and I send it back and pay the 15% restock.

Well the Silverstone isn't on the list either.

Neither is the Ultra X3 1600W

I am sure that ATI charges PSU makers to Crossfire certify them. Not to mention that they will not CF certifiy a board that is SLi certified....it is all about marketing.

If a PSU is capable of SLi then it is capable of crossfire.

Do whatever you want, it is your money.
