PSU w/ RED L.E.D.s???

Buy a $50 450 watt Fortron. Make sure it is not DOA. You know, install it. Then remove it. Open it up and install the fan of your choice. Just be sure to use the same wattage fan. The stock Fortron 120 fan is a Yate Loon, mine was/is.
Once the PSU's cover is removed the warrenty is blown away.

Does it need to be the fans or could you attach something like this near it to light the area up red? http://www.svc.com/lazerledred.html

it is for a friend, but if i remember correctly, he has some stuff cut out of the side of his case, and has a red cathode under what he wants illuminated, but the psu blocks some of it. i may ask for pics to verify that even a lighted psu would help....as red doesn't seem to be the color they put in psus, well i have found one, but it is some brand i have never heard of and i will not let him get some no-name piece of sh!t psu just because of the leds...i would like for him to get a fsp, enermax, antec, pc&p or seasonic, even ocz

The two Fortrons I've opened up had the fan wires soldered in place. So a different fan would have to be spliced in. The two Zippys that were opened had 2 pin fan plugs.

The pins can be removed from both shells, then the two pin shell installed on the LED fan's pins.

Or, the plastic shell can be removed from the PSU's fan jack, then the 3 pin of the fan just plug in place. www.silentpcreview has a one page tutorial on changing out the PSU fan. Do not under spec the PS fan as it is the second most important fan in your rig.

You should have no trouble finding the SPCR tutorial, but if you do, PM me.

The newer Fortrons may use a fan jack now. The ones I opened up were 4 years old. The fans were change as mantainance to the units.
