I need a new power supply for my gf's computer. My power supply ain't great, (OCZ Fatality), so naturally, I want to put it in her computer and get a new one for me ;)

My wish list: efficient, small enough to fit in a Lian Li PC-V351, modular, affordable. I'm thinking Seasonic or Corsair, but I don't need more than 600W (probably 350W for my current system and the rest for future considerations).

Seasonics are the best, but the modulars don't come cheap. The cheapest is the 520 M12II for just under $90 shipped: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151093.

But as it happens, the X650 gold is at $108 shipped right now. Probably way over your budget, but this is the best power supply in the business, bar none: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151088

I should note that the X650 gold is cheaper than every modular Corsair on Newegg right now, and IMHO it's better than any of them watt for watt. Given that you don't need a 1200w power supply, it's a no-brainer if you're looking for a quality modular PSU.

Yeah, I was looking at the Seasonic 520. It's around $90 +tax shipped in Canada. Alas, the X650 isn't on sale here or I would probably get it. Damn you yanks and your ridiculous Black Friday deals...

this is overkill and slightly out of your price range but is a hell of a deal at $135, thats $115 off.

Go to the NCIX webiste and take a look at the seasonic M12D 850w in the weekly sale section.

Tried to link but something the anandtech site is doing is not letting me link to the sale page.

As much as I salivate over such a deal, if I'm being reasonable, I don't really need that much power. I could just get the gf a $40 Antec on sale at newegg right now and keep the OCZ for my own computer, so I have a hard time justifying spending $160 after taxes and shipping for something I don't really need. (This coming from a guy who was THIS close to clicking "add to cart" a few moments ago.)

NCIX also has the Seasonic M12II 520W on for $69.99, and it seems to fit the bill. Do you guys think a quality 520W unit would be sufficient for a next generation quad core and a mid-range GPU?

Edit: They've got the 620 one for $5 more, so maybe that answers my question...

+1 on Seasonic.

I have used them for the past 15 years, and find them to be very reliable, and free of developing weird noises over time.

The extra few bucks spent on a quality PSU is well spent in my book, since a crappy PSU has the potential of frying the whole system.

After flirting with their X-560 unit (would have cost me $160 after taxes and shipping plus a rebate of $15), I went with the Seasonic M12II 620 for $110 shipped ($15 rebate if I get around to it). Should get here on Monday. Thanks for everyone's input.
